Mouth instrument (working title)

Friday, January 17 2014

this week, we made extensions from the servos to insert into the mouth puppet so that we can open and close the mouth.

materials used:

* lasercut acrylic pieces that were slotted into each other
* sheet metal to act as spaceholder between servos (will use sturdier material in final piece)
* zap a gap glue to secure acrylic arms to servos

for the final week, we built a base for the mouth and ran material tests to emulate the latex rubber texture of the puppet. we ended up using materials we found at the rhode island recycling center, which included:

* round styrofoam cyclinders that will act as buttons
* pipe cleaners
* tubes
* styrofoam tape

we also used the following materials from the risd 2d/3d stores:

* casting latex to imitate the latex texture of the mouth
* acrylic paint to acquire the same color as the mouth
* creative paperclay to act as a mold of sorts to connect the mouth and tube
* vaseline to act as latex release agent (to prevent the latex from being permanently stuck onto the surfaces it was painted on)
* velcro to connect the different sized tubes
